In NBA 2K, there are some players who underwhelming ratings in their first appearances in 2K, but after hard work, they have become superstars. Who are they?

Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert

Much has been said by avid 2K players about Rudy Gobert’s rise in the 2K ranks. What gives him the highest-ranking on this list is his infamously low 52 overall rating in NBA 2K14.

Gobert quickly proved that to be an oversight, proving his worth with his incredible height and length that helped him become a suitable defensive center in 45 games with the Utah Jazz. His subsequent 71 overall rating in NBA 2K15 still wasn’t great, but it was a far cry from his rating as a rookie.

Regardless, he’s blossomed into a consistently high 80s overall player anyway as a former Defensive Player of the Year and star for the Utah Jazz.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Another recent back-to-back MVP, there was once a time when Giannis Antetokounmpo was just that fascinating NBA rookie with hardly any skill. The Milwaukee Bucks took a chance on him in the 2013 NBA Draft with the 15th overall pick and he started as a 60 overall in that year’s NBA 2K14.

After taking his time to develop, The Greek Freak basically made the Bucks successful singlehandedly and has had arguments for being the best player in the league. He is en route to winning his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award and is also reportedly the frontrunner to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. At the same time, he has proven to be one of the best two-way players on earth.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry wasn’t a highly touted prospect as an incoming rookie with many doubting his size and ability to properly play point guard. He started as a 69 overall in NBA 2K10 before eventually peaking at the mid-90s during his back-to-back MVP stretch. He becoming a star in 2013, an All-Star in 2014, an MVP in 2015, and having maybe the greatest individual season ever in 2016.

Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter of all time. However, he only played 5 games this season and that’s likely to take a toll on his NBA 2K21 rating, even despite his talent.

DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan

Drafted 9th by the Raptors in 2009, DeMar DeRozan started with a measly 64 rating in NBA 2K10. His rookie year, while not bad, didn’t do much to increase that as he only averaged 8.6 points a game. He gradually climbed up the ranks of NBA shooting guards since that rookie year and eventually became their franchise player.

During his 675 games with the Raptors, DeRozan was able to put up 19.7 points per game, as well as a solid 1.0 steals per game. HE also held a 3.1 average for assists and 4.1 average for rebounds, making him solid for possible counterplays on the court.

Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic

It’s hard to properly assess incoming players that didn’t go to college and Nikola Jokic was one such prospect. He probably had enough skill to perform out the gate, but he came into the league infamously out of shape. That made him fall to the second round, giving him a 68 overall in his first appearance in NBA 2K16.

Now, Jokic is one of the best passing big men in NBA history and he’s a walking triple-double threat and has turned the Nuggets into perennial contenders.

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson wasn’t incredibly popular as a rookie. He was given a 69 overall and didn’t even start games when the Warriors still had fellow shooting guard Monta Ellis. After Ellis was traded, though, he was allowed to start and has since blossomed into the star people know of him now.

Like Curry, Klay struggled with injury problems last season, but In NBA 2K21, Klay Thompson returns with 95 Three-Point Shot, 95 Defensive Consistency, 93 Shot IQ, 93 Perimeter Defense, and 90 Offensive Consistency.

Draymond Green

Draymond Green

Draymond Green got drafted in the second round and started as a 61 overall in NBA 2K13. That would quickly change, as Green gained much more playing time his sophomore year. He would play a substantial role, coming off the bench and even occasionally starting, and providing a nice defensive spark as a combo forward. Green’s rating thus skyrocketed to 77 overall in NBA 2K15.

Green may not be a deadly scorer but he’s one of the best playmakers in the league. He can guard one through five and is one of the main reasons why the Warriors have been so good since Steve Kerr took over.

Besides them, Andre Drummond, Damian Lillard, Paul George, and other players also received extremely low ratings during their rookie season. Also, for more NBA 2K guides like how to buy safe and cheap NBA 2k21 mt, please click here.
