2K revealed details about the all-new MyCareer experience in NBA 2K23, including Story Mode, Soundtrack, The City map, and more. Let’s look at what we know about MyCAREER in NBA 2K23.

NBA 2K23 MyCAREER

1. Storyline

The story begins following the NBA Draft and challenges players to balance their performance in the NBA while navigating their off-court careers. This means dabbling in extra endeavors common with athletes like music, fashion, and business. In addition to an already rich cast of characters, MyCareer features Dreamville musicians, Elite and Bas, as they help players befriend J. Cole and capture the “hearts and minds” of The City.

In addition, the MyCareer mode aims to blend music and basketball culture. The trailer reveals J. Cole as the cover star for the NBA 2K23 Dreamer Edition set to drop this fall. The Dreamer Edition adds to J. Cole’s standout accomplishments as a Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum hip-hop artist and certified baller.

2. Introducing J. Cole and Dreamville

J. Cole

Among the special cast of story, mode characters will be Dreamville hip-hop/rap artist Bas and record producer Elite, who will guide players on how to connect with J. Cole and captivate the hearts and minds of The City.

J. Cole, who winded up being the final cover feature for NBA 2K23’s DREAMER Edition, shared his thoughts on this exciting new feature of MyCAREER’s story mode and his first cover appearance for the game, per NBA 2K’s press release:

“NBA 2K has long been a place to discover new musical talent through their game and continues to be a gold standard for showcasing all things basketball culture,” said J. Cole. “It’s been an amazing journey to not only appear on a cover of this year’s game but to be part of the MyCAREER storyline and soundtrack and bring the DREAMER brand into NBA 2K. There’s also more to come, so watch out for all things Dreamville and DREAMER brand drops during Seasons and for Bas and Elite in this year’s MyCAREER story.”

3. New Guest

Boenisch mentioned that Kevin Garnett, Zion Williamson, Kendrick Perkins, and JJ Reddick will all appear in MyCAREER and will assist players.

4. Soundtrack

5. The City Map

Out of everything that was revealed during the NBA 2K23 MyCAREER trailer, we were most happy to see a look at The City map.

The map looks slightly smaller, and we think eliminating unnecessary locations, or inaccessible buildings would be a good idea.

It also seems that Affiliations are back as the separate colors on The City map could indicate various NBA 2K23 MyCAREER Affiliations.

6. Best The City Builds

These are the NBA 2K23 The City Builds we think will work best:

• Playmaking Shot Creator
• Perimeter Lockdown
• Sharpshooting Facilitator
• Stretch Four
• Paint Beast

7. Badges

We received huge news surrounding the Badges in NBA 2K23, which will change how MyCAREER is played this year.

For starters, the game is switching to a tiered system. Another important note is that several shooting Badges have been removed, including Hook Specialist, Hot Zone Hunter, Lucky #7, Set Shooter, Sniper, and Limitless Spot-Up.
