NBA 2k20, a new game in the annual NBA 2K series, has been released for a few days, and you can try out all the new features in the game. In order for you to score in the best possible way, here’s everything you need to know about how to dunk in the NBA 2K20.

There are two pretty essential elements of dunking that you should understand before you try to go for it in-game.

First, not all ballers are created equally. Some are just better at dunking than others. How good your player is at dunking will depend on their stats, so don’t try to go for a dunk with a player who just isn’t equipped to pull it off.

Secondly, there are two kinds of dunks in NBA 2K20, random, or ones that you specifically decide to do. Just go for a shot when you are near the hoop (X on Xbox, Square on Playstation) will cause the player to go for a random shot, usually either a dunk or a layup. You can, of course, choose to go for a specific type of by inputting certain command.

There are three kinds of a basic dunk in NBA 2K20, and each one requires you to drive to the basket by pressing the ‘sprint’ button: that’s R2 on the PS4 or RT on Xbox One.

Once you’re sprinting to the basket, and you’ve got a clear enough path to complete a dunk, you’re gonna want to remain in motion while doing the following:

How to Dunk in NBA 2K20

Two-Hand Dunk: R2/RT + move and hold up the right thumbstick while driving.

Flashy Dunk: R2/RT + move and hold down the right thumbstick while driving.

Dominant or Off-Hand Dunk: R2/RT + move and hold the right thumbstick left or right (the direction determines your dunking hand).

If you earn enough VC, you’ll eventually be able to expand your Dunk Package in the MyPLAYER Lab.

Keep in mind the Shot Meter won’t appear when you’re attempting a dunk, mostly because it’s a foregone conclusion if you’ve managed to execute the above successfully. However, if you stop suddenly before finishing the combination, or aren’t in a full-sprint when approaching the basket, the Shot Meter will appear and you’ll end up doing a layup or something less awesome (and then you are at risk of a block).

If you want to be more consistent when you dunk, try and upgrade your created character’s stats or pass the ball off to someone with better stats while you’re on the break. Below are the buttons that you’ll need to press for each console.

Platform — Inputs

PS4 — Hold R2 and shoot with Square/Right Stick

Xbox One — Hold RT and shoot with X/Right Stick

Switch — Hold ZR and shoot with Y/Right Stick

A lot of things come into play when trying to dunk in NBA 2K20. You have player stamina to deal with, as well as whether a player has the given attributes to do a dunk and whether the player has a path to the basket as well.
