Diablo 4 Runes Explained

There are two types of Runes in Diablo IV, Condition Runes and Effect Runes. Any Condition Rune can be combined with any Effect Rune to create a Rune Word. Rune progression is in the works.

List of Diablo 4 Condition Runes

Condition Runes can be inserted on any socketed equipment, and they will provide with a condition for activating another socked rune.

Amn Rune
Amn is a Condition Rune. When socketed, Amn provides: “When you freeze an enemy, activate the next socketed rune.”

Eld Rune
Eld is a Condition Rune. When socketed, Eld provides: “When you are stunned or frozen, activate the next socketed rune”.

Eth Rune
Eth is a Condition Rune. When socketed, Eth provides: “Every 3 seconds without moving, activate the next socketed rune.”

Fal Rune
Fal is a Condition Rune. When socketed, Fal provides: “When a pet dies, activate the next socketed rune.”

Vex Rune
Vex is a Condition Rune. When socketed, Vex provides: “When you use a healing potion, activate the next socketed rune.”

List of Diablo 4 Effect Runes

Effect Runes can be inserted on any socketed equipment. If a Condition Runes on the same Diablo 4 items is triggered, the Effect Rune will also trigger if the conditions are met.

Dol Rune
Dol is an Effect Rune. When socketed, Dol provides: “When active, gain 50% critical strike chance for 7 seconds.”

Ist Rune
Ist is an Effect Rune. When socketed, Ist provides: “When active, your next thorns hit deals 30% more.”

Ko Rune
Ko is an Effect Rune. When socketed, Sol provides: “When active, reduce a random skill cooldown by 15%.”

Sol Rune
Sol is an Effect Rune. When socketed, Sol provides: “When active, gain a random shrine effect for 7 seconds.”

Thul Rune
Thul is an Effect Rune. When socketed, Thul provides: “When active, gain 500 damage barrier.”

Diablo 4 Runewords

If the player puts certain combinations of Runes in the correct order into an item with exactly that number of sockets and of the correct item type, the item’s name will change into a “unique” name, displayed in Diablo 4 gold, and the item will acquire extra powers, depending on the “rune word” that was used. The benefits of using a Rune Word is that you can make the Rune Word’s magical bonuses apply to any type of item allowed with the proper number of sockets.

For example, when you combine Amn + Ko, you get AmnKo runeword: When you freeze an enemy, reduce a random skill cooldown by 15.
